This interactive quiz helps managers identify the recognition style that best fits their team—whether it's public praise, personalized feedback, performance-based rewards, peer-to-peer appreciation, or growth recognition. Built in Articulate 360, the module uses scenario-based statements and reflective prompts to guide learners through team dynamics, feedback preferences, motivation styles, and core values. Managers receive tailored results with practical tips for delivering praise that feels authentic, motivating, and emotionally intelligent.

The Challenge

Managers often struggle to recognize their teams in ways that feel meaningful and motivating. Generic praise or one-size-fits-all feedback can fall flat, especially across diverse personalities, work setups, and motivation styles. The challenge was to create a tool that helps managers reflect on their team’s dynamics and deliver recognition that truly resonates.

The Solution

I designed an interactive quiz in Articulate 360 that guides managers through identifying their team’s dominant recognition style—peer-to-peer, personalized feedback, performance-based rewards, public praise and celebrations, or growth recognition. Using scenario-based statements and emotionally intelligent scripting, the quiz helps managers reflect on team vibes, feedback preferences, motivation drivers, and core values. Learners receive tailored results with practical tips for delivering praise that feels authentic, empowering, and impactful.

The Results

As managers apply these insights, organizations can foster a more inclusive, recognition-rich culture that supports retention and performance.

The Design Process

Initial Design

The idea for this project sparked after I thought about my years as an elementary school principal, and what recognition ideas resonated with some of the employees and bombed with others. I realized that there is a variety of recognition styles out there and many managers don't realize the subtle differences they could make to motivate and bond with their employees. It got me thinking about how to turn those insights into an engaging learning experience. I started by sketching a rough outline in Canva to visualize how the quiz would flow and how each part needed to be structured. My goal was to create a clear, intuitive path that would guide learners through the content in a way that felt both practical and easy to follow.

Storyboarding

After creating the initial outline in Canva, I moved into drafting a written storyboard to shape each quiz question. I used Microsoft Copilot to help brainstorm different forms of recognition and indicators to use in creating the quiz. The most important part of this phase was creating a matrix to see how all of the pieces fit together for the quiz in order to give the learner the accurate results. After that, I filled in the traditional storyboard with audio text as well as what information I wanted to place on each slide.

Development

Once the storyboard was complete, I jumped into course development using Articulate Storyline. I sourced, created, and edited all the graphics using a mix of shapes and images from Canva, tailoring each visual to enhance the learning experience and keep things cohesive. At the end of the course, I included an original Team Recognition workbook that I created in Canva as a tool, giving learners a chance to revisit the material and deepen their understanding.
